Did you know the Florida State Record Pompano was caught in Port St. Joe, Florida at 8.25 pounds back in 1999? Right now Pompano are plentiful along the beaches, just look for clear water and a deep trough along the beach. Sand fleas are best but they’ll bite shrimp and pompano jigs also. Maybe you will catch the new state record!
On the flats, the top of the tide has been the best and the first couple of hours of the falling tide. Trout and reds are favoring artificial bait over live baits but that will soon change as water temps rise and pilchards start to move into the bay.
The Flounder bite has continued to be steady on soft plastic baits and bull minnows fished slow on the bottom.
