BlueWater Outriggers Fishing Report 5-1-2025
Offshore: Anglers had quite a few days to get out there this last week and there was a lot going on! Quite a few people came in with large hauls of dolphin. There weren’t any big boys but what was lacking in size was made up for in quantity with some folks getting right at their vessel limit. Speaking of big hauls, there were some great catches of beeliners as well. Bluewater’s, Jake Harpe and Doug LeConte along with “Uncle” David Payne headed out a long way and got bowed up on some massive Gags (successfully released) along with Scamp, Triggerfish and giant Vermillion. Jake and David's monster Gags can be seen in the picture above. (You’ll get ‘em next time Doug). NOAA is predicting 2-3 foot seas from now through Sunday. The good news is that Monday will be very fishable with predictions of 2 feet or less. I’m still waiting to hear of some big Kings being caught; I haven’t heard much about them yet. If you get into them let us know!
Inshore: Fishing in the bay is still hot. I had a chance on Wednesday morning to take a kayak out for a couple of hours. Within those two hours I caught trout, redfish, flounder, stingray, and a skipjack. Actually, it was more like I caught all those fish in about 20 minutes of actual fishing while I spent the other one hour and forty minutes paddling and cussing the wind that relentlessly blew me into the reeds and cussing myself for only bringing 1/4oz jig heads that were just sinking too fast and raking up gobs of seaweed onto my soft plastic. The point of the story is that there is a lot going on out there and the bite is good. This is great news for the Swivel Sister’s Bayou Bash 2025, starting this Friday and running through the weekend. Remember, if you haven’t pre-registered, the registration will be at Salinas Park from 4-6 on Friday. The actual tournament will begin at first light on Saturday and the weigh-in will be from 4-6. All anglers must be in line by 6 to weigh in. So far it looks like the weather will hold up with only a slight chance of rain. It may be a little breezy but that’s just one of those things we have to deal with. I’m so looking forward to fishing this tournament and getting to meet everyone; It will be a fun time for sure!
Freshwater: Bass, Panfish and Catfish, people are hauling them in. Worms are flying off the shelf here at Bluewater, and the timing couldn’t be more perfect. That’s right, Huckleberry’s Adventures Bass and Panfish Tournament will also be taking place this Saturday from 6-3 at Douglas Landing in Wewahitchka. Whether you prefer freshwater or saltwater, this weekend is going to be a big one! That’s all for this week; I look forward to seeing you out there.
