Offshore: Red Snapper season closed but had another good amount harvested. Dave Mason got this nice one just before season closed. It was 35 inches long and weighed 21 pounds. He was fishing with squid for bait. Pete Barwick of Bounty Bay PSJ charters had another great season as well. Don't forget Red Grouper season opens January 1. Also keep an eye out for Black Tuna while you're out there.
Inshore: If you're not fishing for Sheep Head, you should be, they are red hot this time of year! You can find them around pilings using fiddler, crabs or shrimp. The Speckled Trout bite has also been good with the bigger ones being caught in deeper holes of 10 to 14 feet on live shrimp or jigs with pink and white soft plastics. Red fish and Whiting are being caught on the beaches with shrimp.
Freshwater: The Crappie season is off to a good start with several limits being caught off Depot Creek with minnows and soft plastics. Bass has been pretty decent as well, but remember to slow your presentation down. Try using a Ned Rig with a green pumpkin Z-man TRD.
We hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Bluewater Outriggers is here to help you, so whether you're fishing, hunting,or going to the beach stop in and see us this year for all your outdoor needs.
